We were given our first assignments of the trip last night.  The group I am apart of (8 students, 2 supervisors) are heading to Beitbridge, which is a city on the border of S. Africa and Zimbabwe.  Beitbridge is also the actual bridge that connects the two countries and spans the Limpopo River.  Some desperate to leave Zimbabwe will risk crossing the the crocodile and hippo infested river, despite knowing others have been attacked and eaten.

The theme of our coverage is “leaky borders” and addresses the points of entry for those emigrating from neighboring countries into S. Africa.  Some of us, which hopefully includes me, will be taking the bus or train on the half-day trip to the border, others will travel by car.  There will undoubtedly be great images, video and stories to share.  It should be quite the voyage.
